Patrick did this drawing of his friend Earl and Earl's wife and two more friends from a photo. The mountains were Patrick's addition. The actual setting looked like a parking lot!
Pat says in his letter, "Well my art turned out very well I thought. It is only my third drawing of horses, and this one in particular, with movement or action.
Patrick has captured Drew Barrymore's look very well, and his increased drawing skills are evident.
Portraiture is an avenue of art that is not for everyone. Capturing a likeness is a delicate business, and it can go awry with one tiny mark. I admire Patrick's ability, and hope he will continue to develop it.
This portrait Patrick did from a photo shows his very great improvement in capturing the human visage. He has the proportions worked out very well, and the eyes are larger. The shading is subtle and effective. He said this is a 10-year-old girl, and that this drawing made her look 20. He immediately started on a new drawing of her, and sent this one to me.
This second self-portrait was from a photo I took, and it looks even more like him. He started using mechanical pencils, and he likes them a lot. He is doing a lot more shading, and the shading is soft.
Patrick did this self-portrait and sent it to me in the mail. I was really surprised how well he captured his image, since he never did that much drawing of people in the past that I knew of.
The cougar drawing came from a tiny (1/2"x1/2") drawing on one of my return address labels. Patrick blew it up to about 2"x 2" on one of his envelopes.
